Rethinking Ways to Fund Local Government:
Exploring Property Tax Exemptions

planned by a group of local officials and other civic leaders (see planning committee list below)

It is harder and harder to maintain programs at the municipal, county and school district level because of growing revenue shortfalls. Cuts in state aid have forced greater reliance on local property taxes. However, a growing volume of property tax exemptions for various large property owners has shifted taxes onto owners of homes and small businesses.

This conference will consider solutions to these local revenue challenges. It is intended primarily for leaders from local governments (municipalities, counties, school districts) and from local revenue alliances.

When: Friday, February 19, 2010 from 10:00am to 4:00pm

Where: The Pyle Center
University of Wisconsin-Extension
702 Langdon Street
Madison, WI 53706-1420 (Click her for parking information and to an application for a parking permit from the University)

Fee: $40.00

Participants: Leaders from local governments (municipalities, counties, school districts) and from local alliances

Goal: Explore ways to close local property tax exemptions that drain needed revenue.
